Youth it's time to take your involvement, in your world, to another level. Remember, what you put in comes back to you, so make it good.

Volunteering with Camp Jumoke is a rewarding experience and open to parents of campers, students and other citizens throughout the GTA.

General meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of each month and are open to everyone. Join us and learn more about helping children with Sickle Cell Disease.

Walk-a-thon Route 2010You may walk as an individual or gather some friends to share in the fun and excitement. You may also encourage your church, school or workplace to walk as a team and enter the team challenge... there may be a prize for the team that raises the most funds on top of the bragging rights.

Although Sickle Cell is not restricted to children here at camp jumoke we are focussed on the children as they are less able to understand the isolation of living with a disease that prevent them from participating in the regular activities that their friends and classmates take for granted.

JohnTory's Testimonial

jt@camp(Toronto-ON) Camp Jumoke celebrated its 15th anniversary in style with a gala dinner & dance at the Premier Banquet Hall, Richmond Hill on September 26th at 6 p.m. to 1 p.m. The annual Beverly Mascoll Scholarship was also awarded to one child who has demonstrated strong leadership and academic excellence and a second child received a special 15th Anniversary Scholarship.

15th Year CelebrationThe gala event was a smash, with great participation by excited children, talented local performers and families who have benefited from this great organization.

The Epic Story of Blood (pdf)

Blood cells are produced in the bone marrow, a jellylike substance inside the bones that is composed of, among other things, fat, blood, and special cells that turn into the various kinds of blood cells. In children, the marrow of most of the bones produces blood. But in adults, only the marrow of certain bones -- the spine, ribs, pelvis, and some others -- continues to make blood. Bone marrow that actively produces blood cells is called red marrow, and bone marrow that no longer produces blood cells is called yellow marrow.

All blood cells come from the same kind of stem cell, which has the potential to turn into any kind of blood cell. These stem cells are called pluripotential hematopoietic stem cells.

Cord blood and Stem Cell Research offers hope for a cure of Sickle Cell disease in the near future.Read more
