Camp Jumoke receives no government funding. Therefore, it is primarily supported by private and corporate donations. Will you be one?
The annual Camp Jumoke walk-a-thon started in Toronto 23 years ago to raise funds to send children with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) to camp. Traditionally, it has been an entire day of family oriented events and entertainment held at Nathan Phillips Square in downtown Toronto. This event, one of our primary fundraisers, attracts supporters from across the Greater Toronto Area.
In 2016, Camp Jumoke joined the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon as a way to continue our tradition of holding this important fundraiser while streamlining the costs associated with hosting the event with a view towards maximizing the dollars that go towards sending children to camp. In our first year, we surpassed our fundraising goal of $10,000! Our success with the event, coupled with the savings we realized through this new format, meant 3 additional children will be able to attend camp in 2017!
We invite you to join us this year by walking as an individual or by gathering some friends to share in the excitement. You can also encourage your church, school or workplace to walk as a team and enter our team challenge. On top of the satisfaction you’ll get from help us help deserving children, there may be a prize to go with the bragging rights of the team that raises the most!
Hope to see you there! ☺
