Walk the Walk

Each year since its inception in 1994, Camp
Jumoke has held a walkathon to raise the necessary funds to send children with Sickle
Cell Disease to summer camp.
Camp Jumoke receives no government funding. Therefore, it is primarily supported
by private and corporate donations. Will you be one?
The annual Camp Jumoke walk-a-thon is
an entire day of family-oriented events featuring celebrities, live
entertainment, children’s activities, vendors, refreshments
and free giveaways. Thanks to the City of Toronto, we are able to hold all of these festivities in the park behind the provincial legislative building.
The Camp Jumoke walk-a-thon is a lively procession through the streets of downtown toronto and attracts participants
from the Greater Toronto Area, surrounding areas and across North America .
At last year's walk-a-thon, thousands of
dollars were raised by more than 1,500 individual donations and
corporate sponsorships. This allowed 36 children to attend the
two week camp session and develop a life time of memories.

How to do the Turtle Walk? (Back of Pledge Form- pdf)
You may walk as an individual or gather some friends to share in the fun and excitement. You may also encourage your church, school or workplace to walk as a team and enter the team challenge... there may be a prize for the team that raises the most funds on top of the bragging rights. Although Sickle Cell is not restricted to children here at camp jumoke we are focussed on the children as they are less able to understand the isolation of living with a disease that prevent them from participating in the regular activities that their friends and classmates take for granted. This year we especially appeal to those children that do not have Sickle Cell to show solidarity for their peers in the believe that all children should be allowed to play and enjoy the outdoors or simply to be just children.

This year our goal is for each walker to bring in at lease $200 Dollars, which should allow us to secure camping space for about forty (40) children and consider some to participate in the leadership program at camp. This years camp session runs from August 1 to August 14, 2010
and the bus will pick up the campers at Yorkdale early on the sunday morning.
It is through your continued support that Camp Jumoke is able to enrich
the lives of children with sickle cell disease.
