Our Mission
Our Mission Is To Enrich The Lives Of Children Living With Sickle Cell Disease By Providing Them With Access To A Medically Supervised Summer Camp And Educational Support.
Our History
Since 1994, Camp Jumoke has been a special place for children living with SCD. We have sent well over 600 Canadian children to summer camp. For the families, the cost of camp represents an expense which is beyond their means. Camp Jumoke covers the cost to send each child to camp for two weeks each summer without funding from any level of government.
About Camp Jumoke
Camp Jumoke’s mission is to enrich the lives of children living with Sickle Cell Disease and its complications, one child at a time. Our primary mandate is to provide children with the opportunity to attend summer camp at our host camp, Camp Wenonah in beautiful Bracebridge, Ontario, for two weeks every summer; this is at little or no expense to their families. Camp Jumoke is a 100% volunteer-run organization. We receive no government funding. All our funds come from fundraising efforts and corporate donations. Currently, the cost to send each child to camp for two weeks is $2231.75 (for camp tuition only). Attending summer camp is an experience that many of these children would likely not be able to afford were it not for the work we do at Camp Jumoke, thanks to the generous hearts of supporters just like you!
While away at camp, these precious children take part in a camp experience that is medically supervised by volunteer doctors, nurses and other practitioners from Sick Kids and other Greater Toronto Area hospitals. Thanks to their support at camp, our campers participate in numerous outdoor activities, enhance their self-esteem, create invaluable support networks.
Camp Jumoke is managed by a volunteer board of directors and relies heavily on the generosity and commitment of these and other volunteers to conduct all Camp Jumoke business and fundraising events.
